I haven't posted in awhile. I've been too busy enjoying our special blessing this week! Our very dear friends are on a mission trip for the week and asked us to care for their dogs and home while they were away. I remember the hesitant way Erin asked in her e-mail, afraid that we might be inconvenienced! Little did she know what a blessing it has been to "vacation" at their home where the kids can swim in the pool and Tom can fish or kayak. We've enjoyed lunch and dinner almost every day out on the deck overlooking a beautifully landscaped yard and the water. Morning quiet times have been heavenly, surrounded by God's beautiful creation. I've even had some quiet moments all to myself in the hammock (and plan a few more before the week is over)! I went in to work both Monday and Wednesday as normal, and Tom is working a full week, but Tom's nearly hour-long commute has been cut in half for the week, and my normal 30 minute drive to church has been cut to only 8! Giving us much more time in the evening to enjoy.
On Saturday we will return home, to our cute little house in town, where the scenery is basically the neighbors' houses just a few feet away and the town playground...but it's home and it's where our hearts hang :0) Real life is calling to us, "remember me?" as we will probably have to machete our way through the jungle that has most likely taken over our yard since we've been away. And there are bills to pay and errands to run. But for now, I think I'll pour myself a glass of iced tea and slip outside to enjoy a bit more of this peaceful little retreat while the kids are STILL (at 8:30!!!) asleep!!! Shhhh...

Tagged again...by MandyMom
...but really...I asked for it. I love this one!

15. Who is better with the computer? We're talking about my husband aka TEC services. He spends his life working on computers
20. Who is most stubborn? Ha! We argue about this one too! He is...absolutely!

1. Who is your man? Tom, but all the teens call him Mr. T :) I have my own little names for him ;)

2. How long have you been together? 15 years this past February, married 11 years in July
3. How long dated? 4 1/2 years (including engagement)
4. How old is your man? Just turned 31 in June
6. Who said “I love you” first? I am soooo embarrassed to admit that I don't remember. I think it was him...we were only 16.
7. Who is taller? He is, and even the tallest heels in the world couldn't change that! He's a full foot taller than I am.
8. Who sings better? He does...waaaaayyyy better! But I make a joyful noise :)

9. Who is smarter? He is definitely smarter, but I was the valedictorian ;0)
10. Whose temper is worse? Ummm....him again!
11. Who does the laundry? Finally the answer is ME...but he will get a load started sometimes
12. Who takes out the garbage? Me most of the time...but he gets to make the dump runs
13. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Mandymom has a point...what side is the right side? Laying on our backs, he is on my right side...but I HATE to sleep on my back. We trade sides every so many years just for a change and it takes me a month to get used to it.
14. Who pays the bills? Since I only work a few hours a week, it's the money that he brings home that pays the bills. But I'm the one who actually physically makes out the payments (or at least I try my best ;0) )

16. Who mows the lawn? He won't even let me touch the tractor. Guess he's afraid I might break it or something
17. Who cooks dinner? We both do. Tom is an AWESOME cook! I'd rather eat his cooking than mine any day!
18. Who drives when you are together? Always him, unless he's sick or something
19. Who pays when you go out? Again, its his paycheck that pretty much pays for everything, but he's usually the one who takes care of the check

21. Who is the first to admit when they are wrong? He does...I'm never wrong! No really, he is usually first. I ashamed to admit it!
22. Whose parents do you see the most? Mine. We have church together, small group together, my dad and I work together (the few hours a week that I work), but his mom lives closer and I love her very much! I would love to see more of her!
23. Who kissed who first? He made the first move towards me...but I never pulled away. Still remember the day - June 24, 1993 at the top of the Ferris Wheel.

24. Who asked who out? Ummm...we actually weren't allowed to "go out" alone until I graduated HS, but on the night that we met, I asked him to dance.
25. Who proposed? He did, of course! I would never...that's the man's place! It was soooo sweet. It was Christmas Eve and I was sooo hoping that he had gotten me a ring. When he handed me my gift, it was way too heavy to be a ring :0( I opened the box to find a Precious Moments figurine that had a little girl sitting on a stool holding a pencil and knealing in front of her was a boy holding a handwritten note that said "Please check yes or no" and a ring in a box next to him. Tom posed just like the figurine with the note and everything! I've collected Precious Moments ever since.
26. Who is more sensitive? Definitely me!!! He is not much of a "feelings" kind of guy at all.
27. Who has more friends? We pretty much share the same friends mostly. I probably have the most really close friends, just because us girlfriends, we share everything!
28. Who has more siblings? He does. I have only one sister, but he has 2 brothers.
29. Who wears the pants in the family? Always him. That's how it's meant to be.
30. How did you meet? Although he lived next door to a good friend of the family and we supposedly had met on other occasions at their house, we "officially" met at my friend's 16th birthday party/dance.

I love you, Babe! It's quite an awesome adventure we're living!

Tagged by Octamom!
Thanks Octamom! I feel sooooo special! I would have done this last night, but the storms swept through and our power went out while I was cooking dinner. FINALLY, it came back on at around 5:30 this morning! To add a little more adventure to our night, hubby got a flat tire out on a dark back road at around 10:30 and couldn't see to change the tire. Soooo, I fumbled around in the dark to get the kiddies dressed and drive out to shine my light :) He just happened to pull off the road at the end of the long lane of some crazy man who was screaming from his house to get off of his property or he'd call the cops!!! And he DID call the cops, much to our gratitude because with the extra light and help in the rain we finally got the stuck tire off of the truck and got back to our HOT and dark, but dry home before midnight.
Soooo, here it is:

A prayer for my life today...
I just finished studying the book of Hebrews, and found this prayer in Hebrews 13:20-21. I changed the words you to me to personalize it for myself...
Now may You, the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make me complete in every good work to do Your will, working in me what is well pleasing in Your sight, through Jesus Christ to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

A Quote for Octamom
This really spoke to me so I thought I'd share...
Love means to love that which is unlovable, or it is no virtue at all; forgiving means to pardon that which is unpardonable, or it is no virtue at all.

Revival Prayer
Our pastor has most recently been preaching on revival. We as a church have been praying for and desperately seeking revival. Christians in America have been sleeping. We have become comfortable with the world and grown lukewarm. I know I have, and I look around and see the same thing all around me. Our pastor just posted this on our church bulletin board. It is an excerpt from Why Revival Tarries by Leonard Ravenhill. God had already been working on my heart about spending more time in prayer. It was a powerful challenge to me and I thought I'd share.
"No man is greater than his prayer life. The pastor who is not praying is playing; the people who are not praying are straying. The pulpit can be a shop window to display one’s talents; the prayer closet allows no showing off." "Poverty-stricken as the church is today in many things, she is most stricken here, in the place of prayer. We have many organizers, but few agonizers; many players and payers, few pray-ers; many singers, few clingers; lots of pastors, few wrestlers; many fears, few tears; much fashion, little passion; many interferers, few intercessors; many writers but few fighters. Falling here, we fail everywhere.""The ministry of preaching is open to few; the ministry of prayer – the highest ministry of all human offices – is open to all. Spiritual adolescents say 'I’ll not go tonight; it’s only the prayer meeting.' It may be that Satan has little cause to fear most preaching. Yet past experiences sting him to rally all his infernal army to fight against God’s people praying. Modern Christians know little of 'binding and loosing,' though the onus is on us – 'Whatsoever YOU shall bind…' Have you done any of this lately? God is not prodigal with His power, but to be much FOR God, we must be much WITH God.""This world hits the trail for Hell with a speed that makes our fastest plane look like a tortoise; yet alas, few of us can remember the last time we missed our bed for a night of waiting upon God for a world-shaking revival.""The secret of praying is praying in secret. A sinning man will stop praying; and a praying man will stop sinning. We are beggared and bankrupt, but not broken, nor even bent.""In the matter of New Testament, Spirit-inspired, hell-shaking, world-breaking prayer, never has so much been left by so many to so few. For this kind of prayer there is no substitute. We do it – or we die!"Leonard RavenhillWhy Revival Tarries

Craigslist!!!
As a home school family, the fact that we live on a tight budget is a bit of an understatement. This is why I have absolutely fallen in love with CRAIGSLIST! Over the course of the past 6 weeks, we have been blessed to find a complete living room set (sofa, loveseat, and chair...all matching), a pull-behind bike trailer for our little one, and a beautiful nearly new bunk bed - all for under $300 total! I feel as though I have won the lottery or something this summer!
Our old furniture had nearly sunk completely to the floor and was ripped wide open in two places. I couldn't stand to look at it anymore, but there was just nothing in the budget for new furniture. We had promised the girls bunkbeds when I was pregnant, and promised to still try to get them even after we discovered that there was no longer a need to move them into the same room. *As a side note, I LOVE that my girls want so desperately to be together in one bedroom!* Maia has finally gotten the hang of biking without training wheels and we have found great enjoyment in getting out and excercising riding as a family...but Hannah just couldn't keep up on her little bike.
I am just so excited, I had to share. You see, since I have found this wonderful site, everytime we need something that I am sure we can't afford, I have asked God to help us find what we need cheap on Craigslist...and He has! I'll have to post some pictures of our family enjoying our new blessings soon.

Christians and drinking
This seems to be a hot topic lately. We just discussed it in our small group a few weeks ago and I just found a discussion about it on Happy To Be Called Mommy's site. I thought I'd share my feelings by posting on my blog the comments that I left on hers. Here it is:
I grew up in a Christian home, attended Christian school, spent every Sunday at church and believed that a little drink now and then (as an adult over 21) was fine. I knew 1 Corinthians 10:23-33, 2 Corinthians 6:3, and particularly Romans 14, but really believed that as long as I was out alone with my husband, or in my own home...a single drink every now and then was fine for me.
When I was about 27, my husband and I were HS youth leaders in our church and were very active in other ministries. One night, I was having dinner with some of my girlfriends for a girl's night out about an hour away from home. We were ordering our drinks and I started to order a mixed drink, but decided on an iced tea (due to budget concerns) instead. We had a wonderful dinner and as we stood to leave, one of the new teenaged boys to our youth ministry came to bus our table. He remembered me and said "Bye, Miss Lisa...see you Wednesday". It was that night when I decided to never drink another alcoholic drink again. I realized that it doesn't matter where we are, we are a testimony...either good or bad. I never know who may be watching me. If I had ordered that drink, he wouldn't have known whether it was my first drink of the year or my 5th drink of the night. I could have severely damaged my testimony for the LORD without ever really doing anything wrong. The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:22 "Abstain from all APPEARANCE of evil."
It's not that I believe that the drinking of any alcoholic drink is a sin for any Christian. I believe that because I have been convicted in my spirit not to drink, then it would be a sin for me to drink (Romans 14:19-23: Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. 20 Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are pure, but it is evil for the man who eats with offense. 21 It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.[a] 22 Do you have faith?[b] Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. 23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.[c]).
Sooo, in my desire for holiness (1 Peter 1:16 "for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."), I have decided that abstaining from alcohol was a small price to pay to preserve a good testimony for the Lord.
Please don't hear this as judgemental. Just something to think about.

Contentment
This week in our Compass Group we are studying 1 Timothy 6:6-19 NKJV. Verses 6-8 state "Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content." Then skipping down to 17: "Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life."
I was given such a vivid picture of discontentment this weekend, that I just had to share. My husband and I both just celebrated our birthdays over the past 2 weeks and our 11th wedding anniversary on Saturday. As a gift, my sister and her husband so generously gave us a gift card to a very nice seafood restaurant (complete with overnight babysitting) for us to use on our anniversary. You know, the kind of restaurant that we would normally admire from afar, but never spend the money to go to on our own. Tom and I were talking and laughing and enjoying our time alone by candlelight dinner overlooking the marina. We couldn't help but overhear the man next to us whining and complaining about his life and how miserable he was with his pathetic salary...etc. It was obvious from his conversation that his salary couldn't possibly be all that "pathetic" and that he dined quite frequently at restaurants like this one.
That night I rediscovered how truly beautiful contentment really is...and how ugly discontentment can be! Contentment is something to be pursued, prayed for, eagerly sought after. Contentment allowed me to enjoy that beautiful, delicious dinner and still believe with all my heart that no fancy restaurant can compare to our dinners at home around our table, maybe eating just frozen pizza, but surrounded by giggles and silly stories and love, trusting the Lord to provide all our needs. I'm not saying that I prefer to never go out alone with my hubby. We had a wonderful date night, reminiscing over the past 11 years (16 counting all of our years as sweethearts) and dreaming about the future. We need that time to come away from everything and focus on each other. What I am saying is that we don't need a lot of money or possessions to live RICHLY! I was even able to thank God for placing us at a table next to that whining man. After listening to his complaining for awhile, I looked at Tom and said "We are SO BLESSED!" -and he had to agree!
Proverbs 19:23 "The fear of the LORD leads to life, and he who has it will abide in satisfaction; He will not be visited with evil."

A visit with a good friend :)
Today, I was looking for something to do with the kids to get them out of the house since hubby was working at home. A sweet friend of mine told me I should bring them over to see her baby ducks and chickens. My girls had the BEST time holding the baby ducks, feeding the fish in the pond and the chickens (and even gathering an egg out of the coop). What a wonderful hour spent relaxing and chatting with a girlfriend while the girls giggles and squealed over their new feathered friends.
